Mum shares heartbreaking last picture of toddler before she was raped and murdered by stepmother
A mum has shared the heartbreaking last picture she took of her daughter before she was sexually assaulted and murdered. Lauren Furneaux posted the picture of two-year-old Lily, sitting by a Christmas tree, on Facebook. With it she shared the horrific story of the toddler's death to raise awareness of child abuse five years on from the tragedy.
Lauren had handed Lily over to her father, Jeff Wolfenberger, 29, to spend time with him and his partner, Renee King, 28.
She had only been parted from her daughter for a few hours when she received a call from Wolfenberger telling her Lily was in hospital after King had 'fallen on her in the shower'.
Read her story below:
This is the last picture I will ever have of my baby girl. 5 years ago right now she was eating lucky charms with my dad when I told her we had to get dressed. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and said "why mommy?" And all I could do was say "I'm sorry baby." I held her hand as she cried on the way to meet her "father". She asked if we could go to splash village and I told her we would when there was snow on the ground. She asked if Barney could come to her birthday an...d I told her that he would. And the last promise I made her was that one day she wouldn't have to go to their house.
We got to the meeting spot and she was crying saying mommy please don't make me go. I just kept telling her I'm sorry baby and I love you and I will see you tomorrow. He took her and she continued to cry. He let her give me one last kiss and he walked away as she screamed and reached trying to get back to me. You never forget that sound.
I went home to get things ready for her to come back. I was going to clean our room and meet my cousin Erica to give her some of Lily's old toys. And I was going to go Christmas shopping.
I was at Walmart when my mom and dad texted they arrived at our cabin 3 hours away. They sent me a picture of a 3 foot princess stocking and told me to start shopping for stocking stuffers. I was in the stocking stuffer isle at Walmart at 3:01 pm when I looked at my phone and saw her "father" calling.
I picked it up and he said to get to the macomb general hospital right now. That there was an accident and Renee fell on Lily in the shower. I asked if she was ok and he said he didn't know and to just get there right away. I left my cart and sped walked to the car thinking that's it! She's not going back.
Thinking it was a broken arm or leg. I called my mom and she said to meet my uncle at my house and he would drive me. They were on their way. So I pulled in my driveway jumped in the passenger seat as him and my cousin jumped in and we left. He drove as fast as he could trying to get their but it was rush hour traffic.
Her "father" kept calling and saying where are you? I told him I was trying to get there as fast as I could but the hospital was an hour an a half away without traffic. I asked if she was ok and he hung up on me. This continued a few more times before I called the hospital.
I asked the nurse if she was ok and she said the words I will never forget, "I wouldn't be telling you this over the phone but you need to get here. It's bad. She's been back there with the doctors for an hour and she has no pulse." I don't remember the rest of the ride. I remember asking my 14 year old cousin to call everyone and ask them to pray. I should have never put that responsibility on her.
When we arrived at the Er they made my uncle move the car. Her "father" was standing outside smoking as I opened the door. My knees gave out and I couldn't stand. I asked him if she was ok and he said no. I asked him if she was alive and he said no. My world came crashing down at that moment.
When the detective came in later she asked what type of underwear was Lily wearing and asked if I helped wipe her that morning when she used the potty. I told her I did and she asked if there was blood. I told her no. My mom said why are you asking these questions. The detective said because Lily was severely sexually abused preceding her death.
We went home that night and sat in the car. How do you go back into a house that the one person who made it a home is never coming back? How do you go on when all your hopes and dreams are taken away? It was just supposed to be 33 hours, not a lifetime. To this day I hate when my parents go anywhere far away because I'm scared something is going to happen. To this day I can't go in that isle of Walmart. To this day I can't wake up on November 20th and not replay every horrific moment.
I miss you Lily to infinity and beyond always and forever and I will never stop fighting for you. So if you are still reading at this point please share Lily's story today. Please make a choice to be her voice because there is no excuse for child abuse. And please hug your children a little tighter and longer as none of us are promised tomorrow. Thank you all for your support! God bless you!

Traffic gridlock: Ambode reads riot act to Okada, street hawkers, tanker drivers, says days of impunity are over
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has read the riot act to commercial motorcycle operators popularly called Okada riders, commercial buses, street hawkers, and petroleum tanker drivers in the state, saying that the state government will no longer tolerate their nefarious activities on the streets and highways which has caused untold hardship for the people of the state in recent times.
Addressing Government House Correspondents shortly after an emergency Security Council Meeting which he chaired yesterday November 6th, Ambode said that it had become evident that traffic crimes and robbery are mostly as a result of the menace of Okada riders and street hawkers, while commercial buses have become lawless and reckless on the road. He said the Council made far reaching decisions at the meeting in line with the commitment of his administration to ensure security of lives and property as well as the enforcing of the Rule of Law.
To this end, he said he has directed the full enforcement of the Lagos Road Traffic Laws, especially as it concerns the restriction of okada and tricycle operations. He reminded that Schedule II of the Lagos State Road Traffic Law 2012 restricts Okada, tricycle (Keke Marwa), carts and wheel barrows on some routes including Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Oworonshoki-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos-Ikorodu Expressway, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Third Mainland Bridge, Eti-Osa/Lekki –Epe Expressway, Lagos –Badagry Expressway, Funsho Williams Avenue, Agege Motor Road and Eti-Osa/Lekki Coastal Road.
“Any person who fails to comply with any of the provisions of this Section commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction as stipulated in the law. Henceforth, all commercial vehicles, except Bus Rapid Transport buses, must use only the service lanes in accordance with existing traffic laws. All conductors of Commercial buses must sit down in their buses and keep the doors closed at all times while in motion. It is against the Law for conductors to hang on the bus doors and leave the doors open. Any bus contravention will be met with severe punitive measures. Commercial buses can only drop and pick passengers at officially designated bus stops henceforth. Any illegal and indiscriminate picking and dropping of passengers is against the law. Other road users who break traffic laws will pay a compulsory traffic fine in accordance with the law. Mobile Traffic courts are being introduced to prosecute offenders promptly”.
Regarding the recurring Apapa gridlock, Ambode said the lawless activities of tank farm owners and their tanker drivers in the area will no longer be tolerated. He frowned at the fact that three months after meeting with tank farm and petrol tanker owners, they have been unable to come up with a solution to the gridlock caused by the tankers queuing up on roads and bridges to load petroleum products.
He however said that the state of affairs that has accentuated traffic gridlock in Apapa area and its environs is no longer tolerable to the State Government saying that necessary arrangements have been made with the relevant Regulatory Institutions to sanction defaulting port users - importers, tank farm owners, terminal operators and shipping companies. Governor Ambode said the Security Council decided that all tank farms be given a 90-day grace period to build loading bays for their tank farms, with a caveat that any tank farm that fails to provide a loading bay after the grace period, would be shut down by the state government.
“In addition, tank farms owners must desist from allocating pick-up papers to trucks beyond and above their daily capacity as is the case presently,” he said.
Ambode called on residents in the state to be extra vigilante duringthe remaining two months of the year
“The next hawker could be a robber or terrorist. You are now well-advised. If we all cooperate and decide not to buy, gradually and collectively, the hawkers will not come to the highways and streets anymore. Our roads will definitely become safer. Our security agencies have been directed to increase their presence on the roads and highways to ensure greater safety. Once again, I am committed to a safer, cleaner and more prosperous Lagos; a Lagos that works for all”, he said.

7 year old who choked on her school lunch dies after three days on life support
A seven-year-old girl who choked on her school lunch in Brooklyn has died.
Noelia Echavarria ended up on life support for three days after the incident which happened at her school.
The family's attorney confirmed that the little girl died at 8:39 p.m. on Friday.
'My niece came out of the lunchroom eating a sandwich. They say she was choking. She was holding her throat,' said Carlos Santiago, Noelia-Lisa's uncle to ABC7.
'I want the school really, really come and give me the answer. And I want them to tell me the reason they let my daughter, be like that in the hospital, and nobody coming to tell me,' said the girl's mother Ana Santiago'.
Meanwhile, the EMT who attended the emergency call has been suspended from his job because it is against company policy to make a stop without being called.
Assist Ambulance worker Qwasi Reid was transporting a nursing home patient last Wednesday with his partner when they were flagged down at a red light by a distraught man.
Reid told Fox News that his partner told the man they already had a patient and there was nothing they could do.
Reid said he knew that a choking girl was more urgent than transport of an elderly person so he decided to step in and try to save the girl's life.
Reid jumped out of the back door of the ambulance and started administering first aid.
He said he immediately cleared out the little girl's mouth, put an oxygen mask on her, used a defibrillator and started CPR.
'She was blue in the face and lips. No response. Unconscious unresponsive,' Reid said.
Sadly by the time Reid began helping the girl she had already turned blue since no one at the school tried to help her before he arrived.
Reid, who has been suspended from his job without pay for stopping to help the girl, says given the opportunity he would have made the same decision all over again.
'I don't regret it,' Reid said. 'I'd do it again. If I know there's a child choking, I'm going to do my best to help her,' he added.
Reid said Assist Ambulance suspension of his proves that the organization is more concerned about insurance money than they are the well being of people in need.
It remains unclear what the first grader choked on or why she had turned blue by the time medics arrived.
The principal of the school denied claims that the staff didn't do enough to help the child.
'Speaking on behalf of the teachers and staff of P.S. 250,' Principal RoseAnn LaCioppa wrote in a letter to parents of the school, 'I want to reassure you that our school personnel has been trained in response to emergencies and we will always follow all protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of all our students.'
The family's attorney David Perecman has several questions surrounding the choking incident.
'I'm troubled about the amount of time, it took to call 911,' Perecman said.
'With the little information we have, it appears there was a 911 phone call at about 2:30. But that's the same time that the EMT called 911. And if that's the case, that means he's the first person to call 911. And if he's the first person to call 911, then the school did not.'
'I'm trying to find answers, but nobody is giving me one,' said Noel Santiago, Noelia-Lisa's grandfather.
Mum whose two-year-old daughter has months to live starts campaign to give her a magical last Christmas
A mum whose two-year-old daughter only has months to live has launched a fundraising campaign to give her a magical last Christmas.
Little Amelia Morris, who is nearly three, has Tay Sachs disease, a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive damage to the nervous system. Her mum Whitney Morris, 21, from Wigan, has launched a campaign on gofundme so she can transform her home into a Christmas wonderland decked out in hundreds of lights.
The mum-of-two told Manchester Evening News : “The last time we spoke to a doctor they said Amelia only had a few months left.
“We thought of what she loves doing and she loves lights and music. I want to light up the whole house for her.
“We’ve asked a hospice for some charity buckets and we’ll have them outside if people want to make a donation.”Whitney said she and her husband Jonathan Morris were ‘in pieces’ when they found out the devastating news and that Christmas would be ‘bitter sweet’ this year.
She said: “We found out when she was about nine months old. We were in pieces. Amelia suffers from seizures, her eye sight is bad and she isn’t very mobile.
“We’re in and out of hospital with her all of the time. My husband had to quit work so we could be with Amelia.
“We just want to raise awareness about our campaign and also about the disease.”Whitney said Amelia’s little sister Emily, who is only one, can see that her sister is not well.
She said: “Emily can see that her big sister can’t play with other children. She knows something is wrong.“But Amelia doesn’t really know what’s going on, she can’t understand.”
The family’s campaign has so far raised £915 out of £1,000 target in eight days.
The Cats Foundation (Cure & Action for Tay-Sachs) have been in touch with the family providing care and support.
Daniel Lewi and his wife Patricia founded the charity when their six-year-old daughter Amelie was diagnosed with the condition.
Mr Lewi said:“As a charity we have a family support officer who visits the children, as they’re too sick to travel.
“We’ve had a lot of contact with Amelia and her family, it’s a really great campaign that they’re doing to give her the best Christmas.
“People have been extremely generous.”

Governor Obiano calls on FG to save the Onitsha-Enugu expressway from erosion
Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has called on the federal government to save the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway from caving into gully erosion that has affected parts of the newly constructed flyover along New Parts market, Nkpor, Idemili North council area.
The Governor made the call, yesterday, October 29, while inspecting the havoc being wreaked by the erosion on the road.
He disclosed that he has contacted the President after inspecting the site recently, mandated IDC construction firm to mobilize to site and start palliative work, to save the road.
He stated that the federal government owes the state an outstanding twenty-five billion naira spent on the reconstruction of federal roads in the state, a reason why it must get permission from the federal government before embarking on palliative work on the site.
